Self-Fulfilling Prophecies

“The reason I don’t exercise is that I get tired easily.” The reason you get tired easily is probably that you don’t exercise.
The reason I don’t study hard is that I don’t understand my course; the reason you don’t understand your course is probably that you don’t study hard.
It is said that for the stock market to crash, a few people just need to throw in their shares and sell-off. They get some guys to write some articles about the market crash coming, and then almost everyone is in a hurry to sell off “before the market crashes.” The more the sellers, the lower the prices. The lower the prices, the more the sellers. The original guys have their money in the bank waiting for rock bottom. When everyone is tired the run, they bring their money, same sum and buy the shares much cheaper than they sold!

It works the same way with banking. Take your money out, create a media hype that the bank is crashing. All customers will rush in to collect their money. This will create a bank run that will ultimately crash the bank.

Are there some things we can influence to our advantage by doing what we cannot do? Which one really comes first, the chicken or the egg? I’ve since concluded that in primordial times, the egg couldn’t have hatched without a hen (an incubator is a fairly recent invention).

Maybe if we just stop running in the opposite direction, we could get to where we want to go faster.
