The Three Wishes

Many many years ago when Enid Blyton was the most read author in primary schools, one of the smaller titles was “The Three Wishes.” It was meant to teach us as little children to be selfless, patriotic and strategic in making choices even when there are no costs (and probably no consequences) attached.
By the time the story crossed the Niger, the moral had changed. First, you need to dream big. The bigger the fantasy of your wish, the better. Then your wish needs be as all-inclusive and as self-serving as possible. One could imagine that the genie or elf offering the wishes would shiver at the audacity of the wisher. I shudder too! But the climax is that after choosing 2 mighty, audacious things the contemporary wisher goes ahead to wish for the 3rd thing.
Clears throat.
My 3rd wish is, ‘I wish for 3 more wishes’!”
Now the genie should consider running away!
However the main thing is this.
What if God gives you three wishes, what would you choose?
Could you pause and make a mental note of them?

Ok.
Your wishes will show you your passion, your concern, your inclination and your orientation.
It is still early in the year 2013. It will be great to run ones goals through some checks.

  1. Are they selfless? Do they put others first (objectively)? How many people would be positively impacted?
  2. Are they strategic? Do they consider the long term?
  3. Are they sustainable? For how long can you maintain/keep this wish, and at what cost?
  4. Could it be trans-generational, like the blessings and the wells of Abraham?
  5. How would this wish or goal make you a better person?
  6. Would these goals stretch you in any way? Would they make you grow your capacity?
  7. Are they legal?
  8. Are they morally fit?

Your wishes/goals should put smiles on your face, and on the faces of others, without removing smiles from the faces of well-meaning others (at least, a Pareto improvement)!

  1. Wow! Memories! 🙂 Funny enough, I had you in one of my wishes,so I guess I’m not selfish but I had myself in the first wish. 🙂

  2. Happy New. I wish you the best year you have ever lived in Jesus name. Whether your wishes are 3 or 13, the Lord will grant you the desires of your heart in Jesus name.
