Happy Valentine!
Could there be a better day to look at the love life of Patriarch Jacob than today!
“Romeo and Juliet” was a tragic story; as also “The Wedlock of the gods.” But Jacob dint give up!
It was Rachel he 1st met, 1st loved, 1st desired and finally got!
One critical success factor in the choice of Rachel:
“Jacob was still talking with them when Rachel arrived with her father’s flock, for she was a shepherd.” (Genesis 29:9).
This means
1) She was hardworking; she was a professional; she was not lazy!
2) They were not only cousins, they were also colleagues! Shepherds!
I wonder where Leah was. Probably she was a fashion designer or a cook or trader etc.
Many a woman has been called stupid for dating a guy-going-nowhere! Yet the act does not cease!
And if a guy dates a girl-got-no-vision, it’s just a matter of time before he starts getting angry . . . and pissed!
Recall that when God made Adam, He gave him an assignment.
When He made Eve, He told her to assist him!
Jacob must have told himself,
“I’m going far, as a shepherd! What better wife could a shepherd boy have . . . than Rachel!”
“Who else could better appreciate the vibes of a shepherd boy!
It’s also important to be beautiful!
“There was no sparkle in Leah’s eyes, but Rachel had a beautiful figure and a lovely face. Since Jacob was in love with Rachel, he told her father, “I’ll work for you for seven years if you’ll give me Rachel, your younger daughter, as my wife.”” (Genesis 29:17-18 NLT).
Where does sparkle come from?
Birth?
No!
Inside!
From the bubbly well of joy!
It could also be known as cheer!
It is important to set yourself ablaze with joy!
No one could pass and not notice joy (and not notice life!)
Compare with gloomy-beauty!
But there was a down-side!
When Sarah could not give birth, God spoke to Abraham.
When Rebecca could not give birth, Isaac spoke to God, and Rebecca herself went back to God.
When Rachel could not give birth, Jacob and Rachel got angry with each other . . .!
. . . And then the maids became wives!
Can we say that Rachel did not know the God of Abraham? Her father or her husband did not lead her to walk with God! Sad!
However, Joseph who was Jacob’s 11th Son, was eventually ascribed the position of 1st born!
There must have been something from God about the 1st connection between Jacob and Rachel!
Order our steps oh God!
